MEDAN - A total of 39 city transportation (angkot) drivers in Medan City, North Sumatra, were found positive for using drugs while working carrying passengers.
Dozens of these drivers were caught in a joint raid conducted by the Medan City Transportation Service (Dishub), Medan Polrestabes and the North Sumatra Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) from Monday, December 13 to Wednesday, December 22.
The head of the Medan City Transportation Service, Iswar Lubis, said that the dozens of angkot drivers had been brought by the North Sumatra BNNP for rehabilitation.
"We have arrested 39 drivers and are currently being detained at the North Sumatra BNNP for testing positive for narcotics," he said, quoted by Antara.
Iswar said joint officers also secured 41 angkots that did not comply with the terms and conditions of transportation.
"There are also 125 vehicles for which we have vehicle registration tickets because they do not meet administrative requirements," said Iswar.
He said the raids carried out by joint officers were aimed at providing a sense of security to the public when using public transportation facilities.
For this reason, he continued, his party will continue to coordinate with other related parties to create a collaborative work system.
"All collaborate to create a better urban transportation system," he said.
