Indonesian Navy Ships Transport Presidential Aid For Earthquake Victims In Selayar

MAKASSAR - The Indonesian Navy through the TNI AL VI Main Base (Lantamal VI Makassar) has deployed the Mamuju II-6-64 Naval Vessel to transport humanitarian aid from President Joko Widodo and BNPB for earthquake victims in Selayar, South Sulawesi.

The Commander of the Navy Ship (KAL) Mamuju II-6-64 Marine Major (P) Supriadi said the aid packages were transported and distributed using KAL Mamuju based on orders from KSAL Admiral TNI Yudo Margono through Danlantamal VI First Admiral Benny Sukandari.

"On the orders of KSAL Admiral TNI Yudo Margono through Lantamal VI Commander First Admiral Benny Sukandari, we will transport direct aid to be distributed to victims of the earthquake on Selayar Island," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 22.

From the results of the coordination meeting between the Regent of Selayar and the Forkopimda, it was stated that the distribution of the President's aid to disaster-affected residents in the Pasilambena District (Kalaotoa Island) and Pasimarannu District (Bonerate Island).

Marine Major (F) Supriadi explained that the weather conditions on Kalaotoa Island and Bonerate Island were not friendly.

However, the aid package from the President and BNPB must be immediately distributed to the people affected by the recent earthquake.

"Selayar Regency consists of many small islands with variations in depth and shallowness, so care needs to be taken to reach Kalaotoa Island and Bonerate Island, which are the outermost islands of Selayar," he said.

There were also 1,000 food packages from the President weighing 7.5 tons and 2 tons of pertalite type fuel from BNPB for the residents of Kalaotoa Island and Bonerate Island, Selayar Regency, which had been transported and distributed.

Meanwhile, Deputy Regent of Selayar Islands, Saiful Arif, said that the Selayar Regency Government has also distributed aid materials from the President of the Republic of Indonesia as many as 1,000 food packages and 2 tons of fuel.

"Presidential assistance for Pasilambena and Pasimarannu sub-districts, each of which is 500 food packages and 1 tonne of fuel," said Selayar Deputy Regent Saiful Arif.
