Down 0.64 Percent From Last Year, Ridwan Kamil Says Unemployment Rate In West Java Reaches 2.43 Million People

JABAR - Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) as of November 5, 2021 states, the number of the workforce in West Java in 2021 will reach 24.74 million people, consisting of 22.31 million people working (90.18 percent) and 2.43 million unemployed. (9.82 percent).

West Java Governor M Ridwan Kamil said, although there was a decrease (unemployment rate) of 0.64 percent from last year, this figure was still high compared to other provinces in Indonesia.

This is because apart from the large population (49.94 million people), the migration flow to West Java is quite high. Moreover, the COVID pandemic has significantly affected the formal employment sector.

"Based on BPS data, the number of workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in West Java is 460,000. This figure has improved after there was a decrease of 240,000 people when compared to 2020," said Ridwan Kamil

while giving a speech at the launch of the West Java Migrant Service Center (JMSC) Application and the 2021 Jabar Online Job Fair in Bandung, Antara, Tuesday, December 21.

According to him, until now West Java is ranked in the top three sending Indonesian migrant workers, as currently there are still some problems with Indonesian migrant workers from West Java.

"Then there is still slavery of crew members, trafficking through the BKK (Special Work Exchange) mode, there are still many migrant workers who are threatened with the death penalty, the vulnerability of migrant domestic workers to physical, sexual, psychological violence is still high," said Ridwan Kamil.

Then the vulnerability of migrant workers during the pandemic and information and data systems that have not been integrated.

He further said that several efforts were made by the West Java Provincial Government, including expanding job opportunities, increasing the competitiveness of prospective workers.

Then improve labor governance by building an integrated information and data system through the construction of the West Java Migrant Service Center (JMSC) management system.
