Ex-KPK Investigator Stepanus: I Feel Injustice Compared To Juliari Who Received Bribes Also Sued 12 Years In Prison

JAKARTA - Former KPK investigator Stepanus Robin Pattuju said the 12-year prison term demanded by the KPK Public Prosecutor (JPU) was unfair compared to the demands against former Social Minister Juliari Batubara.

"Your Honor, Your Honor, I feel the injustice of the 12-year lawsuit filed by the public prosecutor because I received Rp1.8 billion in money. I feel unfair when compared to former Social Minister Juliari Peter Batubara who received a bribe of Rp32 billion who was also charged with 12 years in prison," said Stepanus Robin while reading the memorandum of defense (pleidoi) at the Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor) quoted by Antara, Monday, December 20.

In this case, Stepanus Robin Pattuju was sentenced to 12 years in prison plus a fine of Rp. 500 million subsidiary 6 months in prison, while Juliari Batubara is known to have been sentenced to 12 years in prison plus a fine of Rp. 500 million subsidiary to 6 months in prison for being proven to have received bribes of Rp. 32.482 billion. Juliari's sentence is heavier than the demands of the KPK prosecutor who demanded that Juliari be sentenced to 11 years in prison.

"I feel injustice, where the minister is a minister who clearly has the position and authority related to his work, and his position and authority accepts bribes of tens of billions of rupiah, which is 16 times what I received," said Robin.

Robin said he only committed fraud by taking advantage of his position as a KPK investigator.

"And I have absolutely no authority regarding the cases in this case, namely those involving M. Syahrial, M. Azis Syamsuddin, Aliza Gunado, Ajay M. Priatna, Usman Effendy, and Rita Widyasari," added Robin.

Robin revealed that he did not receive the same demands against him when compared to Juliari Batubara.

"As a citizen and society, I feel the injustice of the prosecutor's demands which equate me with the demands of the minister who in fact received much more money than me with the authority he has. Therefore, I ask for justice from the Honorable Panel of Judges," said Robin.

In this case, Stepanus Robin Pattuju was charged with 12 years in prison plus a fine of IDR 500 million, subsidiary of 6 months in prison for accepting bribes of IDR 11.025 billion and 36 thousand US dollars (approximately IDR 513 million) for a total of IDR 11.5 billion related to the management of five cases of alleged corruption at the KPK. .

Robin was asked to pay a replacement money of Rp2,322,577,000 which if not imprisoned, he will be sentenced to 2 years.

Stepanus Robin and his fellow advocate, Maskur Husain, were found guilty of accepting bribes related to five cases at the KPK, namely firstly accepting a bribe from the former Mayor of Tanjungbalai M Syahrial in the amount of Rp. investigation.

In the second case, Robin and Maskur received Rp3,099,887,000 and US$36 thousand (approximately Rp513.29 million) or a total value of Rp3,613 billion from the former Deputy Speaker of the DPR from the Golkar Party faction, Azis Syamsudin and the former Deputy Chairperson of PP Generation Muda. Golkar Party (AMPG) Aliza Gunado related to the KPK investigation in Central Lampung.

In the third case, Robin and Maskur received Rp. 507.39 million from the inactive Mayor of Cimahi, Ajay Muhammad Priatna, who was not involved in the investigation of social assistance cases in Bandung Regency, Bandung City and Cimahi City.

In the fourth case, Robin and Maskur received Rp. 525 million from Usman Effendi, a convict of the corruption case of land use rights in Tenjojaya who is serving a 3 year prison sentence.

In the fifth case, Robin and Maskur received Rp5,197,800,000 from the former Regent of Kutai Kartanegara Rita Widyasari.
