Majority Of PCNU In West Java Declaration Of Support For Gus Yahya Leading PBNU

JAKARTA - As many as 16 Nahdlatul Ulama (PCNU) Branch Managers from 27 PCNUs throughout West Java have declared their support for KH Yahya Cholil Staquf or Gus Yahya to become the General Chair of PBNU at the 34th NU Congress in Lampung.

"A total of 16 PCNUs have unanimously elected KH Yahya Cholil Staquf as the General Chair of PBNU for the next five year period," said PCNU Cianjur Chairman Choirul Anam MZD in a written statement quoted by Antara, Monday, December 20.

According to Choirul, the PCNU majority agreement was reached at a meeting held in Bekasi City, Sunday, December 19.

The PCNUs that have finally provided support include PCNU in Cianjur Regency, Sukabumi City, Depok City, Bogor Regency, Kuningan Regency, Tasikmalaya City, Tasikmalaya Regency, Pangandaran, Bekasi City, and Bekasi Regency.

Choirul is optimistic that the support for Gus Yahya will increase because several other branch administrators have stated that they are ready to follow in the ranks of 16 PCNU.

"In the next one or two days, the map of support for PCNU throughout West Java will become clearer and there will be more than 20 in number," he said.

According to him, NU Branch Managers are people who understand the organization and its challenges ahead.

"Of course they see regeneration at this time as something that must be done," said Choirul.

According to Choirul, NU's current challenges are increasingly complex, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic which is not yet fully over. Sectors that need attention include education, health, and the people's economy.

"Seeing the magnitude of this nation's challenges, NU must be more active. We hope that Gus Yahya can make this a priority program that will later be beneficial for NU internally and the wider community," he said.

He hopes that the NU Congress, which is planned to be opened by President Joko Widodo on Wednesday, December 22, can produce many strategic formulations in organizational development.

If there is competition regarding the election of the general chairman of PBNU, according to him, it is a natural part of the dynamics of the organization.

"NU has experience. Even though there are dynamics, of course everything actually boils down to the benefit of the organization," he said.
