NU Conference Schedule Extended To 22 December

JAKARTA - The committee for the 34th Nahdlatul Ulama Congress announced the schedule for the congress in Lampung, which was originally on December 23-25, was moved to December 22-23. While closing on December 24 morning.

"The final decision from PBNU is to hold a congress starting December 22 for a simple opening and closing 24 in the morning," said Imam Aziz, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 34th NU Congress in a press conference quoted by Antara, Thursday, December 16.

The reason for advancing the congress schedule was because it adjusted the PBNU decision on a letter from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), recommendations from the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri), Police Headquarters, and the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and the COVID-19 Handling Committee and National Economic Recovery (KPC PEN).

"So, we have adjusted to the PBNU decision and are ready to carry out the final decision," he said.

In the BNPB recommendation, the implementation of the congress is proposed to be moved forward to 22-23 December 2021, taking into account that the Government will implement Christmas and New Year's PPKM on 24 December 2021 and in conjunction with Christmas celebrations on 25 December 2021.

The BNPB recommendation, he said, should not coincide with the implementation of the Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) period starting on December 24, 2021.

However, his party has also asked for permission to hold a simple closure on December 24.

"But we are asking for permission for 24 in the morning there is still an event but it's just a simple closing. Thank God it can be held in the evening," he said.

Another thing that is recommended is that the congress be held in several locations to avoid crowds and the potential for increasing the risk of spreading COVID-19 during activities.

In addition, BNPB also recommended forming a COVID-19 Handling Task Force to coordinate with BNPB, BPBD, and related agencies in carrying out simulations of COVID-19 preparedness, as well as monitoring the implementation of health protocols during the congress.

Imam emphasized that the committee had formed a special COVID-19 Task Force to organize the 34th NU Congress, in response to the BNPB recommendation.

"To optimize health procedures at the congress, the committee has formed a special COVID-19 task force for the congress chaired by Dr. Makky Zamzami," he said.

The PBNU decision was contained in a written letter numbered 4288/AI01/12/2021 signed by Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar, Katib Aam PBNU KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, General Chairperson of PBNU KH Said Aqil Siroj, and PBNU Secretary General Helmy Faishal Zaini on Wednesday , December 15th.
