KENDARI - Mayor of Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, Sulkarnain Kadir asked all residents in the local area not to be euphoric or carry out activities that have the potential to cause the spread of COVID-19 during Christmas 2021 and New Year's Eve 2022.

"I appeal to the whole community when celebrating Christmas and New Year, choose activities that do not have the potential to cause crowds to prevent the spread of COVID-19," said Sulkarnain in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, Antara, Thursday, December 9.

Sulkarnain said that although the central government had canceled the even distribution of Level 3 PPKM at Christmas and New Year, he reminded the public to remain disciplined about health protocols even though Kendari was at Level 1.

"Actually, although PPKM Mikro Level 3 is not enforced, I see the point is how to anticipate the end of the year so that there will be no spike in COVID-19 patients," said Sulkarnain.

He emphasized the importance of implementing health protocols so that the area does not occur a third wave of COVID-19, especially now that there is a new variant of Omicron.

"Like what happened with the Delta variant. This is what needs to be increased vigilance," he said.

Sulkarnain invites all parties to jointly face Christmas and New Year by not doing activities that have the potential to cause crowds and continuing to apply health protocols such as wearing masks, maintaining distance, and diligently washing hands.
