BNPB: Mount Semeru Eruption Victim Died So 43 People

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported an additional death toll of 43 people due to hot clouds and avalanches of Mount Semeru in Lumajang Regency, East Java.

"The summary of reports from the search and rescue team in the field as of 12.00 WIB, the number of victims who died from Mount Semeru increased by four people, bringing the total to 43 people", said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, in a written statement quoted Antara, Thursday, December 9th.

Aam, Abdul Muhari's nickname, said the joint team continued to carry out further search and rescue efforts in several locations, such as the Kobokan Bulk, Kajar Kuning, Satuhan Mine/North Kebondeli, Renteng Village, and South Kebondeli. In addition, other teams also continue to carry out cleaning and further assessments that are focused on the Kajang Room, Sumberwuluh Village.

Search and rescue activities as well as cleaning which have been carried out since 05.30 WIB were temporarily stopped after it was observed that thick black and overcast clouds around the Kobokan Bulkhead were observed.

Based on the visual report, at 06.22 WIB, Mount Semeru was clearly visible and thick white smoke was observed that rolled west-southwest up to 1,000 meters.

"Meanwhile, 104 people were injured, of which 32 people suffered serious injuries and 82 others were moderately injured", said Aam.

In addition, refugee locations have also increased to 121 which are divided into several points, including Pronojiwo District with 10 locations/525 people, Candipuro District 10 locations/2,331 people, Pasirian District 4 locations/1,307 people.

Lumajang District 11 locations/335 people, Tempeh District 13 locations/640 people, Sukodono District 9 locations/204 people, Senduro District 4 locations/66 people, Sumbersuko District 7 locations/302 people.

There are also Padang Districts with 3 locations/62 inhabitants, Tekung District 3 locations/67 inhabitants, Yosowilangun District 7 locations/89 inhabitants, Kunir District 7 locations/127 inhabitants, Jatiroto District 3 locations/59 inhabitants, Rowokangkung District 4 locations/37 inhabitants.

Randuagung District 6 locations/24 people, Ranuyoso District 1 location/26 people, Klakah District 5 locations/45 people, Gucialit District 3 locations/11 people, Pasrujambe District 2 locations/212 people, Tempursari District 2 locations/23 people, and Kedungjajang District 7 locations/50 inhabitants.

Meanwhile, the damage and losses collected included 31 affected public facilities, 764 cattle, 648 goats/sheep, and 1,578 poultry.
