BMKG Predicts Heavy Rain On Christmas And New Year's Week

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts the intensity of heavy rain in all provinces in Indonesia will occur during Christmas and New Year's week 2022.

Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati said that one week before Christmas Day 2021, medium to heavy rain intensity is predicted in almost all provinces in Indonesia.

"Then from Christmas on December 25, 2021, to January 2, 2022, it is predicted that all provinces in Indonesia will experience heavy rain," Dwikorita said at an online press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday.

Dwikorita said that until early 2022, the Indonesian people still had to be wary of high waves of strong winds, then rainstorms accompanied by strong winds and lightning or high waves.

"So please continue to be aware of floods, flash floods, tidal floods, landslides," he said.

Dwikorita said that currently, the weather situation is not yet normal, in the sense that there is still the potential for an increase in rainfall above normal which can reach 70 percent, and the peak will be in January-February 2022.

The increase in rainfall is predicted to continue, although after February it will still rain and it is predicted that it will continue until March 2022.

BMKG will continue to update its progress on increasing rainfall, as well as the potential for extreme weather that will still occur along with increasing rainfall intensity.
