Floods In Soppeng, South Sulawesi, One Resident Dies, 5,786 Families Are Affected

JAKARTA - Floods hit Soppeng Regency, South Sulawesi Province (South Sulawesi). This flood occurred after heavy rain that caused three rivers to overflow.

"Flood in Soppeng Regency after heavy rain and overflowing of the Cabue River, Belo River and Leworeng River on Monday at 10.30 WITA," said Plt. Head of BNPB Disaster Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in his statement, Wednesday, December 8.

Abdul Muhari said, one resident died and another person is still missing due to this flood. At least, as many as 5,786 families were affected by the flood. Then, two residential units were heavily damaged and 1 unit was slightly damaged.

This flood inundated several areas, including Lalabata District, Ganra District, Donri-Donri District, Lilirilau District, Citta District, Marioriawa District, and Liliriaja District.

"The results of the monitoring of the Soppeng Regency BPBD team, the current condition of the flood is gradually receding, but in Lilirilai and Marioriawa subdistricts are still submerged by floods with a height of 100 centimeters. This condition makes the location only accessible for four-wheeled vehicles," explained Abdul Muhari.

Abdul Muhari revealed that the Soppeng Regency BPBD together with a joint team coordinated with related units to immediately go into the field to collect data and evacuate affected residents.

"Quick assessments in the field will continue to be reported in order to obtain the latest information. Meanwhile, emergency management will also be carried out immediately by establishing health posts and public kitchens," he added.
