Makassar Mayor Danny Pomanto Represents Indonesia To Talk For 3 Minutes At The Summit For Democracy

MAKASSAR - Makassar Mayor Moh Ramdhan Pomanto (Danny Pomanto) represented Indonesia as a speaker at the Summit for Democracy event organized by the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars with the theme Mayors Delivering Democracy Daily, virtually.

Danny Pomanto said that his career in democratic politics in Makassar was created because of the brave and intelligent people.

“Makassar is an extraordinary city. The people are brave and intelligent. This is evidenced by the victory of the empty box in the regional elections a few years ago where people believed in my performance through the Makassar Sombere' Smart City program," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 7.

Danny Pomanto explained that during his political career he ran again as a candidate for mayor for the second term in 2018, until he was disqualified by the election administration or the Makassar KPUD because he was considered to have violated the mutation rules, and his rival at that time came forward against the empty column, but the majority of the people chose the empty column.

Then in 2020, the Makassar Regional Head Election was held again, with four pairs of candidates. The regional head election was tough, but Danny finally managed to come out victorious.

He also explained how to embrace several people who were previously called the Avengers and then changed to Bassi Barania (brave people) to see and provide constructive criticism of the government's performance.

"Interestingly, they are the driving force in Makassar and indirectly implement democratic politics in society," explained the Mayor of Makassar for two periods.

Even though the time given was only three minutes, Danny Pomanto was able to convince the world that Makassar could become a city that implements good democratic politics.

The plan, the activity will be held again for the next stage in June 2022 in the United States. In the event he represented Indonesia along with 11 other mayors in the world discussing the journey of democratic politics.

Danny Pomanto was elected from six regional heads in Indonesia who were previously proposed and then joined other regional heads around the world at the Summit for Democracy.
