JAKARTA - Banten Regional Office of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise destroyed illegal goods worth Rp. 14.47 billion. Illegal goods destroyed were thousands of bottles of liquor (liquor), tens of millions of cigarettes, dozens of cigars and illegal vape liquids of various brands.

The destruction of illegal cigarettes and cigars is carried out by burning them in the Indah Kiat Harbor area, Cilegon City. These items were confiscated throughout 2021.

"The goods confiscated by the Banten Customs and Excise were not equipped with excise tapes, causing a state loss of Rp9.8 billion," said Head of the Regional Office of the Banten Customs and Excise Office Rahmat Subagio, Tuesday, December 7.

According to Rahmat, the destruction of confiscated goods caught in 2021 has permanent legal force or inkracht.

"The items destroyed were 13,363,929 cigarettes, 88 bottles of vape, 20 cigars and 1,932 bottles of liquor," said Rahmat to the media crew.

In addition to material losses, there are immaterial losses in the form of public health impacts.

"The impact of disturbances to order and security in society can be minimized, and can disrupt the impact of economic stability and similar industries in the country," he explained.

Rahmat explained that apart from being destroyed at the Indah Kiat Merak Harbor, the illegal goods were also destroyed at the Tangerang District Attorney's Office.

"Evidence was destroyed at the Tangerang District Attorney's Office in the form of 294,940 cigarettes, 2 smartphones, 1 laptop, 1 account book and 2 notebooks," he said.

The goods destroyed at the Tangerang District Attorney's Office, said Rahmat, were worth Rp. 30.3 million, with a state loss of around Rp. 73.9 million.

Rahmat added, during 2021 his party has taken about 804 actions. "12 cases were investigated, others became BMN or State Property," he explained.
