JAKARTA - Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin reminded the public to increase vigilance in various sectors because global uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis is still high.
"We must remain vigilant because the level of global uncertainty is still quite high," said the Vice President while delivering his keynote address at the 64th Anniversary webinar of the Indonesian Institute of Accountants (IAI) via video conference from Jakarta, Tuesday, December 7.
In the midst of this uncertainty, the Vice President also invited the public to continue to build the nation's independence in the midst of preparations for the post-COVID-19 era.
"Furthermore, we also want to build the independence and resilience of the nation while entering the post-pandemic era," he said as quoted by Antara.
The independence of the nation that must be improved, continued the Vice President, covers various sectors, such as economic, social, cultural, as well as climate and environmental change.
"This includes taking an active role in global leadership such as Indonesia's presidency at the G20 for the next 1 year," he said.
The Vice President also asked all Indonesian accountants to play a real role in building the nation's independence and resilience by building work standards that are adaptive and relevant to the times.
"Mastery of digital technology is no longer an option, but a prerequisite for a professional accountant," he said. The professionalism of an accountant will be tested when facing realities and various problems in the field so that orientation and governance are the keys to building a professional attitude.
In addition, the Vice President also appealed to all accountants to improve their quality and capability, both in competence, experience, and integrity, so that public trust in accountants becomes solid.
The vice president also encouraged IAI to contribute and play a bigger role in the development of sharia economy and finance in various regions.
"I ask that IAI and all its members can pay more attention to the side that touches the public directly, such as the development of the Islamic economy and finance, as well as the development of MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises)," said the Vice President.
