BNPB: 22 People Died Due To The Eruption Of Mount Semeru

JAKARTA - Head of the Operations Control Center of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Abdul Muhari reported the death toll in the eruption of Mount Semeru in Lumajang Regency, East Java, reached 22 people.

"The details of the victims who died were identified as 14 people in Pronojiwo District, while eight people in Candipuro District," said Abdul Muhari through a press statement quoted by Antara, Monday, December 6 evening.

Abdul said the number of injured victims such as burns and injuries as of 20.15 WIB was 56 people, and 22 other residents were reported missing.

Meanwhile, the number of affected population was 5,205 people, and 2,004 people evacuated.

"Regarding the number of residents who are declared missing, the Command Post is still conducting data collection and validation," he said.

Regarding the development of displaced residents, said Abdul, as many as 2,004 residents were in 19 evacuation points spread across three sub-districts, namely Pronojiwo, Candipuro, and Pasirian sub-districts.

The highest number of survivors was in Candipuro District as many as 1,136 people, Pasirian 563 people, and Pronojiwo 305 people.

Currently, survivors have been evacuated to a number of safe locations, including Candipuro Sub-district (Sourwuluh Village Hall, Penanggal Village Hall, Sumbermujur Village Hall, Renteng Village Hamlet in Sumberwuluh Village, Kajarkuning Hamlet in Sumberwuluh Village, and Candipuro Sub-District Office).

The Pasirian sub-district occupies Condro Village Hall, Pasirian Village Hall, Baiturahman Pasirian Mosque, and Nurul Huda Alon Pasirian Mosque.

Refugees in Pronojiwo District occupy the building of SDN Supiturang 04, Baitul Jadid Mosque in Supiturang Hamlet, SDN Oro Oro Ombo 3, SDN Oro Oro Ombo 2, Kampung Renteng Settlement Mosque in Oro Ombo Village, Oro Oro Ombo Village Hall, Sumberurip Village Hall, SDN Sumberurip 2, and the houses of relatives in the hamlets of Kampung Renteng and Sumberbulus hamlets located in the Oro Oro Ombo Village.

In addition to the impact of fatalities, said Abdul, the hot clouds of Mount Semeru caused damage to the housing, education, and infrastructure sectors.

Command post officers are still updating the impact of material losses, with temporary data on houses affected by 2,970 units, educational facilities 38 units, and bridges (Gladak Perak Bridge) breaking, totaling one unit.
