BANJARMASIN - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) through the Syamsudin Noor Banjarmasin Meteorological Station warned of the potential for high waves of up to 6 meters in the Java Sea.

"So the current wave height is between 4 and 6 meters in the southern waters of Kalimantan or the Java Sea and Kotabaru waters", said Adhitya Prakoso, a staff forecaster at the Syamsudin Noor Banjarmasin Meteorological Station in Banjarbaru, Monday, December 6.

The area in the Java Sea with the highest waves is estimated to occur in the eastern part with wind speeds of 10 to 32 knots.

For this reason, said Adhitya, fishing boats, barges, ferries, and large ships must be aware of the potential for high waves.

"If it is felt that the ship's capability does not exceed the wave height threshold of 6 meters, it is hoped that it will not move in the Java Sea for a while until this extreme weather passes", he explained.

Meanwhile, the Branch Head of PT Dharma Lautan Utama (DLU) Banjarmasin, Anton Wahyudi, ensured that the fleet of ships operating was still normal despite the current prediction of high waves by the BMKG.

According to Anton, the fleet operated by PT DLU are all large ships, so they are considered safe to sail to carry passengers and vehicles.

For the Banjarmasin Trisakti Port route to Tanjung Perak Surabaya Port and vice versa, PT DLU currently operates two roll-on/roll-off or (Ro-Ro) vessels, namely KM Dharma Rucitra 1 and KM Dharma Kartika lX with a vehicle capacity of 150 mixed units.
