MAKASSAR - Acting Governor of South Sulawesi Andi Sudirman Sulaiman instructed the South Sulawesi BPBD to immediately bring aid for victims of flash floods in Soppeng Regency.

"Currently, the Provincial BPBD Team is preparing logistical assistance for food and family supplies (family kits) to immediately go to the flood location in Soppeng Regency," said Andi Sudirman in Makassar, quoted by Antara, Monday, December 6.

Based on data from the Soppeng BPBD, continuous rain since December 5, 2021, at 18.30 until today has caused the Paddangeng, Lawo, and Belo rivers to overflow into residential areas.

As a result, four villages/kelurahan in three sub-districts were flooded, namely in Ompo Village and Maccile Village in Lalabata District; Belo Village in Ganra District; Paddangeng Village in Donri-Donri District.

This flood also caused two housing units along with a number of items in the house to be carried away by the flood currents and one housing unit shifted.

The number of houses that were flooded is still in the assessment stage by the Soppeng Regency BPBD team. Andi Sudirman appealed to the public to remain vigilant and anticipate the impact of high rainfall.

Moreover, BMKG Region IV predicts the weather for the next three days until December 7, 2021, has the potential to rain with high intensity in several areas in South Sulawesi.

The Acting Governor of South Sulawesi also asked the provincial and district/city BPBDs to take steps to be ready to face the current weather conditions.

"We hope this assistance can relieve flood victims. As well as for BPBD to continue to be on standby to ensure the fulfillment of assistance for victims," said Andi Sudirman.
