Alert BMKG Warning: Indonesian Region Potentially Heavy Rain In The Next Week

JAKARTA - Head of the Public Meteorology Center of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Fahri Radjab, predicts rain with light to heavy intensity will flush several areas in Indonesia in the next week.​

"Rain with moderate to heavy intensity still has the potential to occur in several parts of Indonesia, starting from Sumatra, then Sulawesi, Java, and almost all parts of Indonesia", Fahri told Antara in Jakarta, Monday, December 6.

Rain with moderate to heavy intensity will potentially continue to flush almost all parts of Indonesia until the peak of the rainy season in January to February 2022.

In the next week, according to him, heavy rains that have the potential to cause flooding will be concentrated in the areas of South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Bengkulu, and South Sumatra.

Residents in these areas are also asked to be aware of the potential for flooding and other hydrometeorological disasters.

"The point is that during this rainy season what we need to watch out for is hydrometeorological disasters. Hydrometeorological disasters are floods, flash floods, landslides, so we need to be careful", he said.

Meanwhile, residents around Mount Semeru are also asked to remain vigilant because rain with moderate to heavy intensity still has the potential to occur in the next week, especially during the day. Previously, this high rainfall was one of the triggers for the hot clouds that fell from Mount Semeru on Saturday, December 4.

Previously, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) also reported that there had been flooding due to heavy rains in West Lombok and East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on Sunday, December 5 afternoon and Monday, December 6 morning.

A total of 94 families in East Lombok were affected by flooding on Sunday, December 5 afternoon, which inundated Keruan District (Ketapang Raya Village), Jerowaru District (South Batu Nampar Village) and Pringga Baya District (Gunung Malang Village and Kerumut).

Meanwhile, 404 families in West Lombok were affected by floods on Monday, December 6, which inundated Ranjok Village, Gunung Sari District.

Seeing the weather conditions in the NTB region, local governments and the public are urged to increase their awareness and preparedness for potential hydrometeorological disasters.

Some of the areas in NTB include Mataram City, West Lombok, Central Lombok, North Lombok, East Lombok, West Sumbawa, Sumbawa, Bima, Bima City, and Dompu.

However, apart from the rainfall, the East Lombok Regency BPBD informed that the flooding was also caused by the drainage being clogged with garbage and unable to accommodate the water discharge.
