YOGYAKARTA - The Yogyakarta City COVID-19 Handling Task Force recorded an additional 14 positive cases of COVID-19 from one school in the city, based on the results of examinations of schools that had been running face-to-face learning.
"There are an additional 14 cases from one school and currently being traced to close contacts, both to classmates and family," said the Daily Head of the Yogyakarta COVID-19 Task Force, Heroe Poerwadi, quoted by Antara, Monday, December 6.
With the addition of these cases, at least there have been findings of 40 students who were confirmed positive for COVID-19 from the results of the examination of students from schools that had been carrying out face-to-face learning.
Although confirmed positive for COVID-19, Heroe said all students were in good condition and did not show any symptoms of illness.
“Similarly with the latest findings from this one school. All those who are confirmed positive are in good health, without any symptoms," he said.
Therefore, continued Heroe, it is necessary to conduct further studies on the source of transmission because after tracking, usually no transmission is found that spreads to family and classmates.
"We will start by mapping whether this case only exists in certain areas or not. Further studies are needed," he said.
With these additional cases, the Yogyakarta City COVID-19 Handling Task Force plans to continue examining students who have undergone face-to-face learning.
"The inspection activities will be adjusted to the activities at the school. When the school is ready, it will immediately be screened. Hopefully, we can get as many samples as possible," he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Yogyakarta City Youth and Sports Education Office, Budi Santosa Asrori, said that learning activities during December would be mostly conducted online.
"Face-to-face learning will be limited by following strict health protocols," he said, citing the positive rate of examination results at around 1.5 percent.
On Monday, December 6, there were two additional positive confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Yogyakarta City, with two patients recovering or completing isolation and no patient dying. Thus, the total active cases in the city were recorded at 52 patients.
