200 Families In Bhayangkara Residence West Lombok Refuge Due To Flood

WEST LOMBOK - A total of 200 families living in the Bhayangkara Residence Housing, Ranjok Village, West Lombok Regency, East Nusa Tenggara were displaced due to flooding.

Head of RT 08 Bhayangkara Residence Housing, West Lombok Regency, Jhoni Satriawan, in West Lombok, said that 200 families affected by the flood had now been evacuated from their homes to relatively safe places.

Floods with water levels up to as high as adults in the area occurred at 06.30 WITA, due to overflowing river water in the local area.

"This is due to the overflowing of the river water next to the housing", he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, December 6.

The incident at the housing estate was the second time after the previous one in 2020.

"This is the second flood, the previous one was in 2020. This is only the worst flood because last year's flood was only up to the knee, now it is as high as an adult", he said.

Jhoni said there were no victims in the incident, while all residents had been evacuated to safer places.

Zoharatun, a resident of the housing estate, said that the flood began to inundate residents' houses at 06.30 WITA.

"The water entered the housing complex at around half past seven (06.30 WITA). At eight o'clock the water was getting high until I just drowned", he said.

Zoharatun admitted that he was dragged by the water due to the swift water entering the housing complex. In fact, he said, there was also a baby who was dragged away but was rescued by residents.

"Before the water overflowed, it had been raining for a long time since Monday morning. Thank God, everything was evacuated", he said.

Previously, the Head of the NTB Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Sahdan, revealed that the worst flooding on Lombok Island occurred in West Lombok Regency.

"From the temporary data we received, West Lombok Regency was the worst affected by flooding, one of which was the Bhayangkara Residence Housing", he said.

He explained that there were three locations worst affected by flooding in West Lombok Regency, namely Gunung Sari, Batu Layar, and Sekotong Districts.

He said the flood was caused by heavy rainfall so that the river water overflowed. Landslides also occurred in Batu Layar and Gunung Sari sub-districts.

"Yes, this is because of the high intensity of rain since last Sunday, December 5 until Monday morning, so the water overflows and enters people's homes", said the former Head of the NTB Ministry of Public Works and Housing Service.

Several areas on the island of Lombok also experienced floodings, such as Mataram City, East Lombok, and North Lombok, but not as severe as in West Lombok Regency.

"In the city of Mataram, there are many tidal floods that hit coastal areas, while in North Lombok and East Lombok there are also floods from overflowing rivers", he said.

Regarding the number of houses and losses due to flooding in the three sub-districts, his party has not been able to confirm it. Likewise with the floods in the cities of Mataram, North Lombok, and East Lombok, considering that the affected locations are quite extensive and are still being recorded by officers in the field.
