Students In Jember Persecuted For Uploading Victims Wearing Silat College Attributes

JEMBER - A man with the initials AAS (21) assaulted R (20), a student at the Islamic University of Jember, East Java. The abuse was triggered by a trivial thing, the perpetrator did not accept seeing the victim's post wearing the attributes of a silat college.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Jember Police, AKP Komang Yogi Arya Wiguna, said that the beating occurred at the victim's rented house on Jalan Kiai Mojo Gang 1 Number 27, Kaliwates District, Jember, on the evening of Sunday, December 5.

The persecution was triggered by the perpetrator's anger towards the victim who used the attributes of a pencak silat college. The victim also admitted to his friend that he was a member of the silat college.

"In her rent, the victim was visited by the perpetrator and a number of colleagues. The perpetrators asked the reason for the victim to upload photos on social media while using the attributes of a silat college from the organization the perpetrators participated in," said AKP Komang, Monday, December 6.

The victim's answer cannot be accepted by the perpetrators. Finally, the perpetrators got angry and beat the victim. The police finally determined the three perpetrators, after examining five people.

Two of the perpetrators who participated in the assault on the victim are still at large. Komang also asked that the two whose identities were known to surrender.

"We have secured one person and we have named a suspect. We hope that the suspect, who is still at large, will surrender himself. If not, we will not hesitate to take decisive action if we are not cooperative," he said.

As a result of the beating, Komang said the victim suffered injuries to the face, right rib, and several other body parts.

"The perpetrator was charged with Article 170 paragraph 2 to 1 e of the Criminal Code with a threat of 7 years in prison," said AKP Komang.
