16 Victims Due To The Eruption Of Mount Semeru Treated At Pasirian Hospital, 6 People Have Burns More Than 80 Percent

JAKARTA - As many as 16 victims of burns caused by hot clouds from Mount Semeru, Lumajang, East Java, are currently undergoing intensive treatment at the Pasirian Regional General Hospital (RSUD).

"In fact, there are victims who suffered burns up to 80 percent. Therefore, we are currently paying special attention to these victims who were burned," said Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy in a press release received in Jakarta, Antara, Monday, December 6.

According to Muhadjir, 80 percent of burn victims classified as critical patients at the Pasirian Hospital amounted to six people. The government is focusing on rescuing victims of the eruption of Mount Semeru.

"According to the direction of the President, whenever there is a disaster like this, the priority is the safety of the victims, especially those who are injured, those who are in pain must really receive maximum care," he said.

Muhadjir said that the injured victims from the eruption of Mount Semeru at the Pasirian Hospital were not only those who suffered severe burns, there were also injured victims who were crushed by the rubble of the building.

The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture has coordinated with the Ministry of Health to send equipment assistance for the needs of the victims. "The condition of the burn was that bad, the victim could not be taken to a representative hospital and the location was quite far," he said.

The Ministry of Health was asked to send specialist doctors and sub-specialist doctors to treat victims from plastic surgery circles, nurses who have experience treating burn patients.

"Earlier I had asked the Minister of Health to immediately send the aids," he said.

Coordinating Minister Muhadjir said the government also handled refugee victims optimally. The National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), together with the Ministry of Social Affairs, and local governments have opened the provision of proper refugee camps, logistical needs, and public kitchens.

"For those who are still being accommodated in the sub-district office, I ask that they be transferred to a school. Because at school it is more closed in classrooms," he said.
