JAKARTA - PAM Jaya President Director Priyatno Bambang Hernowo admitted that currently 46 percent of clean water or nonrevenue water (NRW) flows to customers.

Therefore, Hernowo said that his party is targeting to reduce NRW to the remaining 24 percent by 2030. In which, 2030 is the target of achieving 100 percent clean water service coverage for the people of Jakarta.

"The ideal value for NRW is 25 percent of the size to calculate the basic target. We have a plan to reduce it to 24 percent by 2030," Hernowo told reporters, Monday, December 6.

Hernowo explained that piped water leaks flowing from water management installations (IPA) to customers were caused by two factors, namely physical leakage of 75 to 80 percent and commercial leakage of 25 to 30 percent.

Types of physical leaks include pipes that have started to break, leaks, and accessories that result in water loss. Meanwhile, commercial leaks such as illegal taping or water theft.

Considering that physical leaks account for the largest portion, Hernowo said that the main priority in reducing NRW is to replace the already problematic pipes with new ones. Estimates, repair and replacement of this pipe will cost IDR 7 trillion.

"Is that a priority then? Yes. Because even if we add water, it's not enough. There must be water saving to serve Jakarta residents up to 100 percent," explained Hernowo. Then, the main target for repairing PAM pipes in the near future is the area North Jakarta and Pulomas, Central Jakarta. There, the piped water leakage rate reaches 60 percent.

However, Hernowo said that PAM Jaya must first add a pipeline network to areas where PAM services are not yet connected. Remember, when the leak can be overcome, the water stock that previously leaked can flow directly to other networks.

"We have to channel the water saving that we have done again. The water that we save must be channeled to other areas. So, we also need additional piping to areas where there was no piping network at that time," he added.
