30,523 PLN Customers In Lumajang Affected By Fire Extinguisher Semeru Eruption

SURABAYA - As many as 30,523 PLN customers in Lumajang Regency, East Java were directly affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru, because they are under the auspices of 112 substations at Pronojiwo Feeder which is part of PLN ULP Tempeh.

Senior Manager of Communication and General Affairs of PLN's East Java Distribution Main Unit, A. Rasyid Naja, said that of the total affected customers, the electricity supply for 7,508 customers has turned on, because PLN has managed to turn on 30 substations.

Rasyid said that currently PLN is focused on securing electricity supply in the Lumajang Regency area after the Semeru eruption that occurred at 14.59 western Indonesia time.

"Currently access to the location is still closed, due to the broken Silver Bridge in Pronojiwo. PLN personnel will immediately secure electricity supply in affected locations when access is reopened, of course, still prioritizing the safety and security of all personnel and coordinating with BPBD and TNI-Polri," he said, as quoted by Antara, Saturday, December 4.

Mount Semeru, which has a height of 3,676 meters above sea level (masl), erupted accompanied by bursts of hot clouds avalanche and heavy rain of volcanic ash in Lumajang Regency.

Coordinator of the Volcano Mitigation Group of the Geological Agency of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) Kristianto said the Semeru eruption in the form of hot clouds of avalanches began with lava slides at 13.30 western Indonesia time.

"At the time of the initial visual incident, Mount Semeru was covered in fog and hot clouds falling towards Besuk Kobokan. Until now the incident is still ongoing," he said.
