JAKARTA - Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Zulkifli Hasan explained the reasons for his party supporting President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka in the 2020 Solo Mayor Election. According to him, his party supported Gibran because he was young, accomplished, and capable. managing other people because they had previously been entrepreneurs. In addition, Zulhas said Gibran had a noble goal to advance his region, namely Solo City.

"Starting from the mayor, this is a positive precedent for the younger generation from below, to serve the people below. Gibran is the best in our opinion," said Zulhas to reporters after meeting with Gibran in Jakarta, Wednesday, August 12.

He said Gibran's advancement as a candidate for regional head was a form of regeneration that would inevitably occur. Moreover, he considered young leaders to be more attractive and dynamic. "We see that Gibran has achievements and is used to managing people, is used to managing successful youth organizations," he said.

With these advantages, PAN assessed that its support also provides the best offer for the community in the middle of the people's democratic process.

"We have an obligation to make an offer to the public, even though in the end, in the democratic process, the community determines but we are obliged to make an attractive offer," he said.

"Interesting means that we believe we can bring goodness to the people in the city," he added.

Regarding Gibran's lack of experience in politics, Zulhas said that PAN did not question this. The reason is he is sure that the businessman will quickly learn after he wins the 2020 Pilkada.

"It's just quick to learn. Just a moment. If you are a regular success, just look at Pak Jokowi's ministers for example. Erick Thohir is very fast, but now he is trusted to restore the economy," he said.

Furthermore, at the same location, Gibran emphasized that the cooperation between him and PAN was purely for the benefit of the Solo people and for their progress. "Of course, the SK from PAN adds political power to be able to win the contestation later," said Gibran.

It is known, of the 45 seats in the Solo City DPRD, PDIP controls 30 seats. In second place is PKS, followed by the Golkar Party, Gerindra Party, and the National Mandate Party with 3 seats each, and the last 1 seat is held by the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI).

Meanwhile, the requirement to carry a candidate pair in the 2020 Pilkada must have at least 9 seats.
