Attorney General: Professional Prosecutors Will Not Postpone The Agenda Of The Trial

JAKARTA - Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin said there was no reason for the prosecutor to postpone the agenda for reading the charges if the prosecutor worked professionally.

According to Burhanuddin, there is actually no reason to postpone the trial other than technical reasons, such as the absence of witnesses or experts attending the trial.

"Therefore, I don't want to hear that there is a delay in the trial reading of the demands, especially on the grounds that the demands (planned charges, ed.) have not come down from the leadership," said Burhanuddin in a written statement from the Attorney General's Center for Legal Information received in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Sunday. , November 28.

Burhanuddin gave a briefing during a working visit in South Sumatra, stressing that integrity and professionalism must be the minimum standards possessed by every Adhyaksa person.

"I remind the head of the work unit to pay close attention to this, because delays can indicate the potential for disgraceful acts and I do not hesitate to evaluate if there are still prosecutors who postpone the trial reading of the charges without any valid reason," said Burhanuddin.

Regarding the integrity and professionalism of a prosecutor, Burhanuddin once said that he did not need a prosecutor who was smart but immoral, and did not need a prosecutor who was intelligent but lacked integrity.

"What I need is prosecutors who are smart and have integrity," he said.

The integrity of a prosecutor, said Burhanuddin, is all actions that illustrate a person's honesty and authority in carrying out their duties. Integrity itself can be seen from the quality, nature, and condition of a person so that someone who has integrity can be trusted because he always acts transparently, consistently, responsibly, and objectively.

Burhuddin emphasized to all Adhyaksa personnel that integrity is not just a "tagline" alone, integrity must be carried out both through words, behavior, concrete actions, and increase the intensive supervision attached by the attorney general to each member.

According to him, if there is a member of the public prosecutor's office who commits a disgraceful act, then those who will be evaluated up to two levels, in the sense that the leadership of the prosecutor is also evaluated. This is stated in the Attorney General's Letter Number: R-95/A/SUJA/09/2021 concerning Enforcement of Integrity Commitments, said the Attorney General.

The Attorney General reminded that many employees have been prosecuted and convicted for pledging the integrity and dignity of the institution. Of course, this action has the intention of providing a deterrent effect for all.

"Because I don't want your attitude and behavior to tarnish the Tri Krama Adhyaksa doctrine," said Burhanuddin.

Burhanuddin emphasized that a prosecutor must not only have integrity and professionalism, but must have a conscience to realize law enforcement that is just and can benefit the community.
