Detainee For Obscenity Case In Medan Killed Persecuted For Not Depositing Money, 6 People Become Suspects

MEDAN - A total of 6 detainees at the Medan Polrestabes have been named suspects in cases of abuse. The six of them abused a detainee, resulting in the victim's death.

Medan Deputy Chief of Police AKBP Irsan Sinuhaji said the victim with the initials HS died, Tuesday, November 23, at night at Bhayangkara Hospital, Medan. The victim of HS is a prisoner of an obscenity case.

"On the night of November 23, 2021, officers received a report from the hospital that one of the detainees had died. After checking, it turned out to be true," said AKBP Irsan, Friday, November 26.

According to reports from officers who came to the hospital, the victim had bruises on his body. The officer who saw it immediately reported it to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Medan Police.

"Furthermore, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit carried out an investigation to determine the cause of the victim's death. Furthermore, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit and the team immediately went to the place where the victim was detained and took information from one of the detainees there," said AKBP Irsan.

From the results of the interrogation of a detainee, it was revealed that the name of HM, a detainee who was suspected of committing the act of mistreatment.

"From the results of the interrogation, one of the detainees said that it was true that there was persecution. At that time, one name of the perpetrator's initials HM appeared. Then HM was interrogated in depth by officers, 5 names appeared," he explained.

When carrying out the persecution, AKBP Irsan said the six perpetrators had their respective roles. The perpetrators persecuted because the victim did not give the money demanded by the suspect.

"The mode they use is to extort prisoners, they usually do this around 1-3 am. They do this mode when other prisoners are asleep," said AKBP Irsan.

"Furthermore, it was investigated that the perpetrators had received money from the victim HS twice, the first was Rp. 700 thousand, the second was Rp. 200 thousand. The incident that happened yesterday, they asked the victim to return the money in the amount of Rp. 5 million," he continued.

To ask for the money, the perpetrators communicated with the victim's family

"Because the demands may not be met, they are being abused by using tools, bare hands, pushing and others," said AKBP Irsan.

Currently, the six suspects are still undergoing intensive examination to determine other motives. In addition, the prison guard officers are also being investigated internally by Propam to investigate his involvement.

The six suspects had the initials HM, H, NP, J, WS and TS. They are detainees for cases of obscenity, embezzlement, theft by weight, intermediaries and drugs.

"For his actions, the perpetrator was charged with Article 351 paragraph 3 in conjunction with Article 170 of the Criminal Code with the threat of imprisonment for 12 years," said AKBP Irsan.
