JAKARTA - The area or zero point of the new capital city of Indonesia in Sepaku District, North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan, has become a new location for the spread of malaria.

According to the Malaria Program Manager at the local Health Service, Sarjito Ponco Waluyo, residents who contracted the disease due to mosquito bites mostly occurred in the border area of North Penajam Paser Regency and West Kutai Regency.

Then many malaria sufferers were recorded at the health service center domiciled in the border area of North Penajam Paser Regency-Paser Regency.

"Currently there is a new point as a location for malaria spread, namely the zero point of the new state capital in the Sepaku District area. Companies in the plantation and forestry sectors are asked to adopt a preventive pattern by maintaining the cleanliness of the surrounding environment and others.

A total of 884 malaria sufferers were recorded at health service centers in North Penajam Paser Regency, said Ponco Waluyo, throughout this year (2021).

Of the 884 malaria sufferers, two of them died, namely one patient from North Penajam Paser Regency and one patient from outside Penajam Paser Utara Regency.

Malaria cases this year (2021), he said, decreased compared to the previous year, in 2020 there were 1,444 malaria sufferers and three people died.

"Looking at the malaria case data reported by 11 health centers and hospitals, this year there has been a decrease in malaria cases from the previous year (2020)," he said.

As an effort to prevent malaria, the North Penajam Paser District Health Office cooperates with the East Kalimantan Provincial Health Office.
