KPK Suspects That The DKI Provincial Government Is Paying More Than Other Cities For Formula E Because It Is Not Yet Popular

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suspects that the payment for the implementation of the international Formula E racing event from the DKI Provincial Government to the organizers is expensive because Jakarta is not as popular as other cities.

Deputy Chairman of the KPK, Alexander Marwata, said that this more expensive payment made Jakarta finally choose to carry out the electric car racing event, along with several cities in other countries.

"There may also be branch marking to other countries. It could be, for example, other cities are already well known, Rome for example, they may be more famous", Alexander told reporters at the KPK Red-and-White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Thursday, November 25.

In addition, the expensive payment is also suspected to further promote Jakarta in the event. Alexander said this aims to make this city more known, especially in the international realm.

However, he said this was still conjecture. Later, the KPK will ask for an explanation from related parties regarding the high cost of paying.

For information, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government paid 122.102 million pounds or IDR 2.3 trillion to the organizers of this racing event. This price is considered more expensive because other countries only spend IDR 1.7 billion to IDR 17 billion.

"Why do you have to pay more than other cities, maybe they are considered popular, can attract tourists to watch Formula E and so on", he said.

Previously reported, the KPK admitted that it was investigating and had examined several parties related to allegations of corruption related to the implementation of the Formula E racing event.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Inspectorate, Syaefulloh Hidayat, and President Director of PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), Widi Amanasto, visited the KPK's Red and White building on Tuesday, November 9.

They came to submit a 600-page document related to the plan to organize Formula E. This was intended to provide support for monitoring corruption prevention (MCP) efforts to the KPK leadership.

The document contains the approval process for the preparations needed by the KPK to obtain detailed and complete information in investigating allegations of corruption in the planned international event.
