Two Gas Cylinder Thieves At Marine House Freed, Victim Forgives Both Perpetrators

JAKARTA - First Sergeant Mar Agus Purwanto is reported to have withdrawn his report regarding the theft of 3-kilogram gas cylinders by DIK (30) and FER (28) at his home in the Marine complex, East Cilandak, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.

"As soon as the perpetrator arrived at the Pasar Minggu Police, the reporter immediately withdrew the report," said Pasar Minggu Police Chief, Commissioner of Police Bambang Handoko when contacted, Wednesday, November 24.

Previously, DIK and FER were caught by residents for committing theft on Monday, November 22, night. The two perpetrators took two gas cylinders at a shop owned by First Sergeant Mar Agus Purwanto.

Bambang said there were a number of reasons the Marines withdrew their report. He said First Sergeant Mar Agus Purwanto had forgiven the perpetrators.

"The reason for withdrawing the report basically he forgives, because he realizes that the perpetrator also said 'buy' but did not respond because he was busy serving people and knew the perpetrator was a bit drunk and there were no other losses. The goods (the two stolen gas cylinders) were also intact, "explained Bambang.

After withdrawing the report, the two perpetrators were released and returned to their respective homes.

As previously reported, DIK and FER were arrested in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta. Both were arrested for being caught stealing gas cylinders at the Marine complex housing. The modus operandi of these two perpetrators was to pretend they wanted to buy credit at a shop owned by First Sergeant Mar Agus Purwanto.

"The chronology is that the two perpetrators pretended to want to buy credit at First Sergeant Mar Agus' stall. When First Sergeant Agus' son who was serving wanted to take his cellphone for credit transactions, DIK entered the stall and took two 3 kg gas cylinders, while the FER perpetrator waited outside with his motorbike," said Sergeant Mar Agus Purwanto, Tuesday, November 23.

Seeing the gas cylinders being taken without paying, First Sergeant Agus' son shouted 'thief'. Neighbors who heard then looked out and immediately chased the two perpetrators. Finally, the two perpetrators were caught and were beaten by the residents.
