Puan emphasized that the practice of contract marriage with the mode of unregistered marriage has a high risk of violence against women. According to her, although there are many incidents of violence, the practice of contract marriage, especially with foreign nationals (foreigners), continues to occur. make women victims," she said. Puan Maharani then quoted the Komnas Perempuan report which stated that cases of violence against women were still quite high, for example in 2020 there were 299,911 cases, and in the January-July 2021 period there were 2,500 cases.

Therefore, the chairman of the DPR asked the government to seriously address the issue of contract marriage, because preventing cases of violence against women requires a joint commitment from various ministries and related agencies. "The government must be able to guarantee protection for women. Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPA) must cooperate with the Ministry of Religion, regional governments, together with friends from the Police and other relevant agencies to socialize the potential for violence through contract marriage practices," he said.
