MUI Members Arrested By Densus 88, Vice President Ma;ruf: If There Are Intruders, Not Their Houses Are Burned

JAKARTA - Vice President (Vice President) Ma'ruf Amin responded to the wishes of certain groups who wanted the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to be disbanded because there were officials suspected of being involved in terrorism crimes.

Ma'ruf Amin who is also the Chairman of the MUI Advisory Council, likened that if there is an intruder or a rat in a house, it is not the house that must be burned, but the rats themselves.

"Not because of one person, yes, the name is infiltration everywhere. There is infiltration. So, it was not the house that was burned, but the rat (which was destroyed)," said Ma'ruf Amin in his statement in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, November 23.

Regarding counter-terrorism, Ma'ruf Amin said that MUI fully supports the efforts of the government and the police to take firm action against the perpetrators without considering their background.

"And MUI supports taking action against those involved in terrorism, whoever he is, even if it is for example a member of the MUI board. If he is a terrorist, then he must be (acted)," he said. Previously, it was reported that one member of the MUI Fatwa Commission, Ahmad Zain An Najah, and two other missionaries, Farid Okban and Anung Al Hamat, were arrested by the Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-terror Police on Tuesday (16/11) in Bekasi, West Java.

The three were arrested in close proximity to the time and place, for allegedly being involved in the management of the wing organization under Jamaah Islamiyah (JI).

The results of the investigation of Densus 88 Antitetor, Ahmad Zain An Najah is the Chairman of the Sharia Board of the Baitul Mal Amil Zakat Institution Abdurrahman bin Auf (LAM BM ABA) and Farid Okbah is a member of the Sharia Board of LAM BM ABA. Meanwhile, Anung Al Hamat is the founder of Perisai Nusantara Esa, the JI wing organization.
