Ustaz Bahar Bin Smith Free From Gunung Sindur Prison, Controlled By Police And TNI

JAKARTA - Assayid Bahar alias Bahar bin Ali bin Smith was released from the Class IIA Special Penitentiary (Lapas) Gunung Sindur on Sunday, November 21 yesterday. He was released after serving his sentence.

"The person in question has finished serving his criminal period purely. According to his calculations, his release will be on November 21, 2021," said Head of the Class II Gunung Sindur Special Prison Mujiarto in a written statement quoted on Monday, November 22.

Bahar has been detained since December 18 in connection with a criminal offense under Article 333 of the Criminal Code with 3 years in prison and Article 351 of the Criminal Code with 3 months in prison. During that period of detention, he received four months of remission.

Mujiarto ensured that this remission was carried out in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.

"The remission is given in accordance with Article 34 of Government Regulation Number 99 of 2012 concerning the Second Amendment to Government Regulation Number 32 of 1999 concerning Terms and Procedures for the Implementation of the Rights of Correctional Inmates and Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights Number 18 of 2019 concerning Amendments to the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights Number 3 of 2018 concerning Terms and Procedures for Granting Remission, Assimilation, Leave to Visit Family, Parole, Leave Before Release, and Conditional Leave," he said.

In the process of release yesterday, the prison also coordinated with local law enforcement officials to provide assistance.

The law enforcement officers include the Bogor Resort Police, Gunung Sindur Police, and the Gunung Sindur Koramil, Kodim 0621 Bogor.

"We make sure the release process runs safely and smoothly in accordance with health procedures and protocols," he concluded.
