IDR 18.9 Billion Money Delivers North Hulu Sungai Regent Abdul Wahid To The KPK Detention Center

JAKARTA - The Regent of Hulu Sungai Utara Abdul Wahid now has to feel the chill of the KPK Rutan at the Red and White Building Branch after being named a suspect. He is alleged to have received Rp18.9 billion in money related to the procurement of goods and services.

KPK chairman Firli Bahuri said this determination was made after the arrest operation (OTT) was carried out and ensnared three people on September 15. The three people are the Acting Head of Public Works Office of the North Hulu Sungai Regency (HSU) Department of Public Works (HSU) Maliki; Director of CV Hanamas, Marhaini; and Director of CV Kalpataru, Fachriadi.

"With sufficient preliminary evidence found, the KPK further raises the status of this case to the investigation stage by announcing the suspect AW (Abdul Wahid), the Regent of Hulu Sungai Utara for the period 2017 to 2022," said KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri at a press conference, Thursday, 18 November.

In this case, Abdul became a suspect because he received money from the Acting Head of the PUPRP Service, Maliki. The money was handed over according to his request for appointing Maliki.

In addition, Abdul also received a commitment fee of 10 percent from the work project for the Water Resources Sector of the North Hulu Sungai PUPRP in 2021 with an amount of IDR 500 million.

Next, he is also suspected of receiving money in the amount of Rp. 4.6 billion in 2019; Rp12 billion in 2020; and Rp1.8 billion in 2021. The money is given as a commitment fee from other projects that have been carried out by the private sector.

"During the investigation process, the investigative team secured a number of cash in rupiah denominations as well as foreign currencies, which are still being counted," said Firli. who reneged on the people's mandate to gain personal and group benefits by engaging in corrupt practices. Moreover, they are paid with public money.

Firli also said that corruption can make development projects decline in quality. "So that the community as the recipient becomes the most disadvantaged party," said the former Deputy for Enforcement of the KPK.

"KPK continues to remind all regional heads to carry out the mandates and responsibilities given to them as well as possible and to work with integrity to stay away from corrupt practices for the progress and prosperity of the community," he concluded.
