2 Residents' Houses In Trenggalek Damaged By Landslide

TRENGGALEK - Two residents' houses were reported to be heavily damaged by a landslide that occurred in the Dongko and Panggul sub-districts, Trenggalek Regency, East Java.

"Two houses were reported damaged, while others hit the road. There were no casualties," said Head of Public Relations of Trenggalek Police AKP Bambang Dwiyanto as quoted by Antara, Thursday, November 18.

The worst impact of the landslide was experienced by the Kasmat family who live in Salam Wates Village, Dongko District. Their house was heavily damaged, almost 50 percent after a 10-meter high cliff near their house collapsed on the back wall of the building they were in. The incident occurred on Wednesday, November 17 at around 16.00 WIB.

"Currently Kasmat's house only leaves one room and a living room. Meanwhile, the other parts were damaged by landslides," said Bambang.

From Thursday morning until noon, dozens of volunteers along with joint TNI/Polri officers and BPBD worked together to clean up the mud material that had entered Kasmat's house.

"Cleaning up the landslide material is done manually, because the terrain cannot be passed by heavy equipment." he said.

Kasmat and his family are currently being evacuated to residents' homes that are safe from the danger of landslides. His house was temporarily vacated, because there was still a risk of further landslides.

In addition to hitting two residents' houses in Dongko and Panggul, landslides also occurred sporadically in several areas.

According to BPBD Trenggalek data, landslides occurred in seven sub-districts in Trenggalek. Starting from the Districts of Durenan, Axe, Panggul, Dongko, Munjungan, Pule, and Dam.

Landslides in the Durenan sub-district that occurred in Sumberejo Village were reported to have occurred at two points and affected some elementary schools and houses. Meanwhile, in the Kampak sub-district, it occurred in Ngadimulyo Village (eight points; seven houses and one embankment).

Landslides also occurred sporadically in Panggul District regarding the tank of one house, in Dongko District it occurred in Salamwates Village (two points, one house on one road) in Petung Village, affecting one resident's house, and several other landslide points were observed in Munjungan, Pule, and Subdistricts.
