Coming To The Commander In Chief, Puan Asks General Andika To Help Supervise Prokes Discipline

JAKARTA - DPR Speaker Puan Maharani attended the handover of the position (Sertijab) of TNI Commander from Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto to General Andika Perkasa at TNI Headquarters, Cilangkap, East Jakarta, Thursday, November 18. With the official change of leadership in the TNI, Puan hopes that the TNI can carry out its duties and obligations to maintain the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia even better. He also hoped that General Andika could continue the tasks that Marshal Hadi had started and carried out professionally. On that occasion, Puan conveyed a special message to General Andika, who has officially served as TNI Commander. Primarily, the TNI as one of the elements of the nation tasked with handling the COVID-19 pandemic. "I specifically request that the TNI be at the forefront of the vaccination program in 3T (front, remote, and underdeveloped) areas," said Puan.

Puan requested that the TNI continue to assist in monitoring and enforcing the discipline of health protocols. Moreover, it is reported that as many as 17,000 people who are positive for COVID-19 are free to move in public facilities such as malls based on the monitoring of the PeduliLindung application.

"The role of the TNI is very much needed to help the government remind the public to be disciplined about health protocols even though the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic are getting better," said Puan.

The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture considered that public awareness was very important ahead of the 2021 Christmas and 2022 new year holidays. Puan reminded that massive socialization and enforcement of rules must be prioritized so that Indonesia does not experience the third wave of COVID-19.

"The government has announced that it will implement a level 3 PPKM policy in all parts of Indonesia during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Let all elements of the nation work together to remind the public to comply with these provisions," said Puan in her written statement.

In line with that, Puan appealed to the TNI, together with other agencies such as the National Police, to oversee the policy to ensure that the public continues to follow the health protocol instructions from the government.

Puan emphasized that compliance with health protocols would be the capital for Indonesia to get out of the COVID-19 pandemic. He warned that Indonesia should not be like a number of other countries in Europe, China and the United States, which are now experiencing a spike in Corona cases.

“Avoid partying and crowding during the year-end holidays, as much as possible not to travel during holidays. Don't let Indonesia again experience difficulties in dealing with COVID-19 as we have felt how difficult it was in the middle of last year," said Puan.
