Puan Appreciates Muhammadiyah's 109 Years Of Existence While Remembering Bung Karno And Fatmawati

JAKARTA - The chairman of the DPR, Puan Maharani, appreciated the existence of Muhammadiyah for the nation and state. He praised the great role played by Muhammadiyah in handling the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was conveyed by Puan in the 109th Anniversary Reception held by the Muhammadiyah Central Executive (PP) offline and online, Thursday 18 November. This year's Milad Muhammadiyah offline event was held at the Sportorium of the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) with limited participants and strict health protocols.

“Happy 109th Anniversary of Muhammadiyah. Continue to spread enthusiasm and dedication in the Islamic and national struggle," said Puan.

He then reminded his grandfather who had a background as a Muhammadiyah cadre.

"Bung Karno and Mrs. Fatmawati have served in Muhammadiyah," he said.

As is known, Sukarno, who was the Proclaimer of Independence and the first President of Indonesia, was one of the students of the founder of Muhammadiyah, KH Ahmad Dahlan. Meanwhile, Fatmawati, the First Lady, is an Aisyiyah cadre who is also the daughter of a Muhammadiyah leader in Bengkulu, Hasan Din.

Sukarno had taught the Bengkulu Muhammadiyah school and was a member of the Muhammadiyah Teaching Council.

Puan then said that Muhammadiyah's dedication had brought many benefits to the people. At the age of 109 years on November 18, 2021, Muhammadiyah also continues to show concern for others.

“For 109 years, Muhammadiyah has served the nation and state. Muhammadiyah continues to serve the community in all aspects of service," said Puan.

"For example, in the fields of education, health, socio-economics, and others while continuing to carry out Islamic da'wah," added the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture. One of the real forms of Muhammadiyah dedication is how this large Islamic organization in Indonesia helps various programs to handle the COVID-19 pandemic. Puan said that many Muhammadiyah cadres went directly to the community to provide assistance in various sectors, including health.

"Of course we don't forget the role of Muhammadiyah's humanitarian service in handling Covid-19 through Muhammadiyah hospitals throughout Indonesia," he said.

Puan believes that the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia can be quickly resolved with the cooperation of all elements of the nation, which also consists of Muhammadiyah cadres. "With Muhamadiyah's mutual cooperation with other components of society, we are optimistic in dealing with COVID-19. And I am sure we will emerge as a winning nation," concluded Puan.
