KPK's Search For Harun Masiku Is Considered Only Lip Service

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said it would intensify the search for their fugitive, the former PDI-P legislative candidate, Harun Masiku. However, these efforts are seen as mere lip service.

Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nurul Ghufron said after the COVID-19 pandemic subsided, his party would increase the search for Harun Masiku, who has been on the run since 2020. This increase is the commitment of the anti-corruption commission.

"Now that COVID-19 has subsided, it will also be our commitment to re-increase our search for Harun Masiku," said KPK Deputy Chair Nurul Ghufron to reporters at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta.

He ensured that the KPK's commitment to arrest Harun remained the same and had not relaxed. This, said Ghufron, has been proven by the movement of the anti-corruption commission to request the assistance of NCB Interpol to facilitate searches abroad.

"Once again, we are committed from the start. Because everyone who is already on the wanted list, we will definitely do a search," he said.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) may say that it is committed to looking for Harun, but Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) has a different opinion. ICW researcher Kurnia Ramadhana said all statements by the anti-corruption commission regarding the search were nothing more than lip service.

This lip service, he continued, has a purpose to cover up the depravity that occurred in the search process. "What was conveyed by the KPK leadership or the acting KPK spokesman sounded more like lip service to cover up the corruption of law enforcement in the anti-corruption agency," he continued. said Kurnia when contacted by VOI, Thursday, November 18.

Kurnia said the public also no longer believed in the commitment touted by the KPK to find the fugitive. Moreover, Harun's search was actually not due to limited ability but because there was no will.

"The Harun Masiku problem is not about the ability of the KPK, but the will. For ICW, the KPK leadership does not have the will to process Harun Masiku's law," said the anti-corruption activist.

He suspected that the KPK leadership did not want to arrest Harun because the case of interim interim bribery (PAW) in the DPR allegedly involved one of the party's top brass. "So that loosens the courage of Firli Bahuri and other KPK leaders," said Kurnia.

Recalling the journey of the Harun Masiku case

The KPK has named Harun Masiku as a suspect in giving bribes to KPU Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan since January 2020. This bribery was carried out so that he could get an easy seat as a member of the DPR RI through interim shifts or PAW.

Harun's escape began when the KPK carried out an arrest operation regarding this case on January 8, 2020. In the silent operation, the KPK named four suspects, namely Harun Masiku, Wahyu Setiawan, former Bawaslu Member Agustiani Tio Fridelina, and Saeful Bahri.

It's just that Aaron, who was not caught by OTT, is unknown. He reportedly fled to Singapore and is said to have returned to Indonesia.

This case stems from the death of a PDIP candidate named Nazarudin Kiemas. In July 2019, the party bearing the bull symbol filed a lawsuit for judicial review of Article 54 of KPU Regulation Number 3 of 2019 concerning Voting and Counting to the Supreme Court (MA).

The application was then granted and as a determinant of the interim replacement (PAW), the party bearing the bull symbol then sent a letter to the KPU to appoint Harun as Nazarudin's replacement.

However, the KPU instead appointed Riezky Aprilia as a replacement for the brother-in-law of the PDI-P General Chairperson, Megawati Soekarnoputri, who had died. The reason is clear, Riezky's vote is under Nazarudin or in second place for the South Sumatra I Dapil.

Lobbying was then carried out so that Harun could become a member of the legislature. Seeing this gap, Wahyu Setiawan as the KPU commissioner said he was ready to help as long as there was an operational fund of IDR 900 million and the transaction was carried out in two stages in the middle and end of December 2019.
