Jokowi: Provinces With Rising COVID-19 Cases Must Be Given Warning

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has requested that provinces experiencing an increase in positive cases of COVID-19 be given an immediate warning.

"So that once again, the provinces that (cases) have increased, even if only slightly, will actually be warned and given assistance so that the cases will also go down again," said Jokowi while giving an introduction to the plenary cabinet meeting at the presidential office, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, 17 November.

Jokowi emphasized that the focus of policies in the health sector is to reduce daily cases and active cases.

"We know that our active cases are below 9,000 and the number of cases is increasing between 300-400 daily," he said.

The President asked the ministers to focus more on the provinces, regencies and cities that experienced increases, even if only slightly.

"Because we know that now in the United States daily cases have also increased to 70,000, Britain has 39,000, Russia has reached 38,000, Germany has 30,000. This must be our vigilance," Jokowi continued.

Moreover, according to Jokowi, the government has complete data related to COVID-19.

"City regencies are also the same, seen in detail because we have complete data and assistance is also given so that the case becomes lower," he said.

There are a total of 4,251,423 positive cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia with the addition of 347 cases on November 16. The current active cases are 8,339 cases or 0.2 percent of the total cases.

There were 4,099,399 people who recovered with the addition of 515 recovered cases and 143,685 people who died with an additional 15 deaths on November 16, 2021.

The coordinator of the Java-Bali PPKM, Luhut Pandjaitan, previously mentioned that from several regencies and cities in Java and Bali, cases began to increase and they received weekly treatment. Specifically for the Java-Bali region, there are 29 percent of regencies/cities whose cases increased compared to last week and 34 percent of regencies/cities that experienced an increase in people being treated compared to last week.

In total there are 26 regencies/cities that enter level I 1 and 61 regencies/cities that enter level II in Java and Bali.
