SURABAYA - A partial lunar eclipse (GBS) will be visible in East Java. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) class 1 Juanda Surabaya said a partial lunar eclipse is expected to occur starting at 17.30 WIB, Friday, November 19.

"The public can watch when the moon starts to rise (towards the end of the partial lunar eclipse phase) until the eclipse ends, which is estimated to end at 19:05 WIB," said Head of BMKG Data and Information Class 1 Juanda, Teguh Tri Susanto, Wednesday, November 17.

Teguh said the partial lunar eclipse could only be seen clearly by the people in Malang. This is because the Malang area is located in the highlands, compared to other areas in East Java.

"But people in other areas in East Java can still enjoy GBS, but not as clearly as in Malang," he said.

The event of a lunar eclipse is one result of the dynamic movement of the position of the sun, earth, and moon. According to him, it only occurs at certain times, for example during the full moon phase.

When a partial lunar eclipse occurs at its peak, it will result in a change in the color of the moon. It tends to be dark and reddish on the side exposed to the Earth's umbra.

"A partial lunar eclipse occurs when part of the Moon's disk enters the Earth's umbra (main shadow)," he said.

Before the GBS phenomenon, the East Java region could also witness the Total Lunar Eclipse (GBT) phenomenon, on May 26, 2021. A number of regions in Indonesia could also see GBT. However, with different levels of clarity and duration.
