CIANJUR - Residents whose homes were affected by land movement in Cianjur Regency, West Java, will be relocated to a safe location.

Head of the Cianjur Regional Disaster Management Agency Emergency Section, Asep Sudrajat, said the local government would decide on the relocation plan after surveying areas experiencing ground movement in Campaka and Campakamulya sub-districts.

"We have coordinated with the Geological Team of Bandung Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation regarding soil movements that occurred in Campaka and Campakamulya sub-districts. After the team arrived and conducted a survey at several points of ground movement, then we can conclude relocation", he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, November 15.

He said that until now, residents whose houses were damaged due to soil movement in Campaka Sub-district are still taking refuge in relatives' homes or shelters provided by the government.

In addition to Sukajadi Village, Campaka District, soil movement occurred in Campkawarna Village, Campakamulya District.

"We are still on standby for dozens of volunteers and officers to monitor the situation. If they see signs of a follow-up disaster, (officers will) immediately evacuate residents to a safe place", said Asep.

According to Cianjur Regional Disaster Management Agency data, the movement of land has caused at least five houses to be heavily damaged in Sukajadi Village, Campaka District. Dozens of houses in the village are also at risk of being damaged during ground movement.
