Police Dismantle Motorcycle Theft Syndicate In Binjai, Interceptors To Arrest Buyers

MEDAN - A syndicate of motorcycle thieves and forgers of vehicle documents by breaking into the houses of their victims has been uncovered by the Binjai Police, North Sumatra. Five of the perpetrators were arrested by the police.

The five actors, namely JR and BP with the role of taking the motorbike, HW's role in selling and storing stolen goods. Then DH as a buyer and forger of stolen vehicle identities and license plates and IS as a buyer of stolen vehicles.

Binjai Police Chief, AKBP Ferio Sano Ginting accompanied by North Binjai Police Chief, AKP Teuku Fathir Mustafa and Head of Public Relations Subdivision AKP Siswanto Ginting said the disclosure was based on a report from a victim named Kartini.

"On Saturday, October 2, 2021, the Honda Beat motorbike was lost which was parked at the victim's house on Jalan MT Haryono, North Binjai District. On that basis, the victim reported to the North Binjai Police with the number: LP/B/121/X/2021 / SPKT north binjai," said AKBP Ferio in his statement, Sunday, November 7.

In addition to securing the syndicate perpetrators, the North Binjai Police Criminal Investigation Unit also secured 7 motorbikes. Then, dozens of fake vehicle documents and also several tools to change the physical vehicle that was stolen.

"To run the modus operandi, the syndicates sell their stolen goods to buyers for R2 million without a vehicle registration certificate. For vehicles that have a STNK and fake number plates, the price is above Rp. 3 million according to the condition of the vehicle," he explained.

AKBP Ferio explained that the syndicate had carried out its actions and had sold more than 40 motorcycles in the Binjai City area.

"Based on the results of the investigation, this syndicate has been recorded as having committed more than 20 motorcycle thefts in Binjai City. In fact, they sold all stolen motorcycles again in Binjai City," explained Ferio.

To people who feel they have lost their motorbikes, AKBP Ferio appealed to the Binjai Police Station or come directly to the North Binjai Police.

Because of a total of seven motorbikes that were secured by his side related to the case, Ferio said that only two vehicles had the names and addresses of their owners known.

To account for their actions, the perpetrators were charged with Article 363, Article 480 and Article 481 of the Criminal Code.
