Megawati's Message To The Police: You Are Ordered To Handle, Overcome Radicalism, And Terrorism

JAKARTA - The 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri advised the Police to show dedication and high fighting spirit in alleviating national security problems. "You are told to deal with radicalism, terrorism, those who will become national leaders in the future, must, must, must, think about this three times," Megawati said when giving a virtual speech at the book launching event "Dunia Hoegeng, 100 The Year of Exemplary" at Balai Sarbini, Jakarta, Sunday afternoon, November 7th.

Megawati then talked about the high dedication she had done while still serving as vice president. At that time, Megawati came directly to oversee the conflict in the region to see for herself the problem.

"As vice president at that time, this was not to brag, no. Because I wanted to see for myself what happened. I don't want to just report," said the vice president under President Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur).

Megawati revealed that her desire to go directly to conflict areas was opposed by the National Police Chief, the TNI Commander, and the Head of BIN at the time. The reason, he said, was because he was worried about security issues. Also, you should not step foot on the ground because of the high potential for danger.

"Finally, the decision was made for a win-win solution, I stayed on the warship for almost 10 days," said Megawati. The PDIP Chairperson also learned a lesson from the incident. According to her, such a reckless step needs to be taken because she must have a fighting spirit and high dedication which the police should have.

He said, all tasks and work should not be seen as mere routine tasks and should not be done just because they want to get promoted.

"No, I don't think so, I'm not the president, I'm the vice president. But all the assignments given to me, I carried out well," said Megawati.
