Faithful To The End, Dogs In Turkey Routine Pilgrimage To The Tomb Of Its Owner

JAKARTA - The story of friendship between dogs and their owners is not new. Dogs are known as loyal animals, often have touching stories.

However, the story of this dog from northern Turkey takes his loyalty to his late owner to a new and moving level, which humans don't necessarily do.

It is Fero, the dog left by the owner, Omer Guven on October 29, who is often found visiting his grave.

Güven, a father of five, had found a new puppy in his dog when he adopted a stray dog 11 years ago. The old man died at the age of 92 last month of natural causes.

Her daughter-in-law, Fatma Güven, said her mother-in-law and adopted dog Fero had a very strong bond with each other. He said that since the day of the funeral of Fero's father-in-law and owner, the dog had insisted on staying at the old man's final resting place.

"He also takes care of stray cats and usually goes out of town in winter. The cats will wander when he leaves the city, but Fero will find him soon," he said, quoting Daily Sabah from Anadolu Agency November 5.

"I don't know if the dog sensed his coming, but he would always be there whenever he came back. My father-in-law also loved him very much. He wouldn't eat until he fed Fero," he recalls.

"Sometimes there are neighbors who see Fero coming to the cemetery without us. When he was buried, the dog sat right on top of the grave," he said.

To note, in January, another dog in Trabzon won hearts when he waited days outside the hospital where his owner was hospitalized.
