Doctor's Sedan Car Accident Hits Truck That Kills One Person In Palembang Allegedly Due To Sleepiness

PALEMBANG - Police traffic unit Polrestabes Palembang, South Sumatra, said a car crash driven by a doctor was allegedly caused by a sleepy driver which resulted in one person's death.

"In the meantime, it is suspected that the driver was sleepy," said the Traffic Police Unit Commander of the Palembang Polrestabes, Kompol Endro Ariwibowo, quoted by Antara, Friday, November 5.

According to him, due to the sleepiness of a doctor known as Anggy Albernande (28), a resident of Pekom Gunung Kemala, Wai Krui Pesisir Barat District, Lampung, he lost control of the silver Altis brand sedan that he was driving with Erwin Iskandar (31).

The car hit the tail of the right side of the container truck that was running aground on Jalan Basuki Rahmat, Kemuning District, Friday at around 02.00 WIB.

Because of the collision, the left car "rugged" hit Erwin Iskandar, who was sitting next to the driver, he died on the spot with wounds on his upper body.

"Passenger Erwin died at the scene, while doctor Anggy Albernande was injured and they were taken to the Mohammad Hoesin hospital," he said.

The Head of Traffic Unit of the Palembang Polrestabes, AKP Malina, said that the container truck that the victim was hit by ran aground due to a ruptured rear tire shortly before the incident.

"The driver Didi parked the car for repairs, then was hit by the victim," he said.

According to him, at the time of the incident the container truck did not put up any signs that the truck was in trouble so the victim did not pay attention to it coming from the direction of Jalan Batch 66.

"The victim and his vehicle have been evacuated. Meanwhile, the victim's vehicle and the truck were secured as evidence along with the documents," he said.
