Aftershocks Of 3.4 Magnitude Damage One Resident's House In Sawai, Central Maluku

AMBON - Aftershocks with a magnitude of 3.4 at 21 kilometers northeast of Sawai, North Seram District, Central Maluku Regency, Maluku Province at a depth of 10 kilometers damaged a floating house unit belonging to a local resident.

"It happened early this morning, one unit of a resident's house at sea collapsed during the aftershock," said Sawai State Official, Ahmad Ipaenin, quoted by Antara, Friday, November 5.

He said that due to aftershocks with a magnitude of 3.4, a floating house made of planks and tin roofed by the sea, belonging to the Umna Gay family, collapsed instantly.

There were no casualties in the incident, but the Umna Gay family, who was still asleep at the time, was still traumatized.

Local residents have evacuated the victim's family and several other important items, but the remnants of the damage are still being left until it is reviewed by the Central Maluku Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

Residents, said Ahmad, have been advised to stay alert for aftershocks that occurred after the main 5.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at around 11.42 WIT.

"We are still recording the impact of the earthquake to report back to BPBD and the Regent of Central Maluku (Tuasikal Abua), because until this morning there were still aftershocks," said Ahmad.

BMKG analysis shows an aftershock of magnitude 3.4 that occurred on Friday, November 5, 2021, at 02.34.35 WIT, centered at 2.79 South Latitude and 129.22 East Longitude or 21 kilometers north of Sawai at a depth of 10 kilometers. The quake was on a scale of III MMI in Sawai.

Since the main earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 on Thursday, at 11.42 WIT 16 kilometers west of Eh and 27 kilometers northeast of Sawai at a depth of 10 kilometers, there have been several aftershocks with lower magnitudes.

There were no reports of casualties in the earthquake that occurred, but it has caused minor, moderate and severe damage to houses, public facilities such as roads, schools and places of worship in Sawai and surrounding villages.
