JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin asked the Mayor of Batu Dewanti Rumpoko to immediately work to deal with the impact of the flash floods that hit Batu City and coordinate with the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin called Dewanti from the vice president's official residence in Jakarta, Thursday, November 4, to get a report on the latest conditions related to the people affected by the flash floods.

"Yes, so that (coordinate with) the Ministry of Social Affairs take steps, hopefully there won't be many victims and so that (immediately) it will be resolved," said the vice president as quoted by Antara.

In the call, the Vice President asked about the extent of the flood-affected area. The Vice President also asked the Batu City Government to immediately provide assistance to the people affected by the flood.

Meanwhile, Dewanti reported that the cause of the flash flood was due to heavy/heavy rain for more than an hour in Batu City, East Java.

The flash flood was caused by the high intensity of rain that flushed the upstream area of the Brantas River Basin on the slopes of Mount Arjuno.

Meanwhile, Head of Emergency and Logistics of the Batu City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Achmad Choirur Rochim, said that at least 15 people were reportedly dragged away by the overflowing river.

"Four people have been found, all survived. While 11 others have not been found," said Rochim.

Based on Antara's observations in Batu City, the flow of the Brantas River, which passes in Sumber Brantas Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City, was observed to be flowing fast and mixed with a number of materials, such as mud, stones, tree pieces and building debris.

The flash floods affected five villages in Bumiaji District, namely Sumber Brantas Village, Bulu Kerto Village, Tulung Rejom Village, Padang Rejo Village and Sidomulyo Village. "Five villages that are affected by the Brantas River are drained by the Brantas River," said Rochim.
