BANDA ACEH - The Banda Aceh National SAR Agency (Basarnas) team evacuated a crew member (ABK) MT Advantage, a Turkish citizen who was sick with a heart attack

Head of Banda Aceh SAR Office Budiono said the evacuation was carried out in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ), 33 nautical miles from Ulee Lheue Port, Banda Aceh City.

"The evacuated crew member was Hasan Yilmaz, 39, a Turkish citizen. The person concerned was evacuated due to a heart attack. The evacuation implemented health protocols to prevent the transmission of COVID-19," Budiono said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, November 2.

Hasan Yilmaz is a crew member of the MT Advantage, a Marshall Islands-flagged tanker. This ship departs from Brazil to Singapore.

The evacuation of the Turkish citizen used the SAR ship KN Kresna 232. The evacuation involved the Customs and Excise team, the Port Quarantine Office, and other related parties.

The evacuation process was hampered because the tanker was not at the agreed meeting point. This happened because the SAR ship and the tanker lost contact.

The weather in the waters at the time of the evacuation was sunny and the sea waves were not too big. The distance to the evacuation point is a three-hour cruise, Budiono said.

The victim was unloaded from the tanker after undergoing a health check including a COVID-19 test. Evacuation using cranes to lower victims from the tanker to the SAR ship KN Kresna.

"After the evacuation, KN Kresna immediately returned to Ulee Lheue Port. Next, the Turkish citizen was taken to a hospital in Banda Aceh using an ambulance," Budiono said.
