JAKARTA - Joey Jordison, one of the founders and original drummer of the metal band Slipknot, has died. This sad news was announced by the Jordison family.

So far, there is no explanation regarding the cause of the 46-year-old drummer's death. However, the family said he died "peacefully in his sleep."

"We are deeply saddened to share the news that Joey Jordison, drummer, musician and prolific artist passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26, 2021. He is 46 years old," the statement read.

“Joey's death has left us with an empty heart and an indescribable feeling of sorrow. For those who know Joey, understand his quick wit, gentle personality, big heart and love for all things family and music.

"Joey's family has asked friends, fans and media to respect our need for privacy and peace at this very difficult time. The family will be holding a private funeral service and ask the media and the public to respect their wishes."

Clad in masks and playing an extraordinarily aggressive musical style, Slipknot exploded into the music scene from an unlikely place in Des Moines, Iowa, in the 1990s. Jordison is a member of a band whose music relies on this incredible rhythm and endurance. He also co-wrote many songs.

Jordison was a member of Slipknot's lineup in 1995 until his departure in late 2013. Although no official statement was made, sources say he was fired from the band where Jordison said he did not voluntarily leave.

Apart from Slipknot, he has also played guitar in the band Murderdolls and drums in Scar the Martyr and his newest band, Sinsaenum.
