Former Slipknot Drummer Joey Jordison Dies, Musicians Say Condolences

JAKARTA - The former drummer for the band Slipknot, Joey Jordison, passed away on Monday, July 26. Many condolences from fellow musicians poured in for Jordison.

“I owe Joey Jordison so much and could never imagine being here today without his influence,” Alex Bent of Trivium wrote on social media.

Meanwhile, Metallica uploaded a photo of James Hetfield with Jordison with the caption, "Rest in peace my brother..."

As for Mike Portnoy, former Dream Theater drummer said, “So shocked and heartbroken to hear of @joeyjordison's passing. Apart from being a great drummer, he's a classy guy."

Launching Rolling Stone, the family explained that Jordison died in his sleep. So far, the exact cause of Jordison's departure is unknown.

“Joey's passing leaves us with an empty heart and an indescribable feeling of sadness. To those who know Joey, understand his precise wit, gentle personality, big heart and love for family and music," the family said in a statement.

Joey Jordison's funeral will be held behind closed doors due to the ongoing difficult situation.

Born on April 26, 1975, Joey Jordison is a co-founder of Slipknot since they used the name The Pale Ones and he suggested changing the name to Slipknot.

In 2013, Jordison left Slipknot and founded the band Scar The Martyr until the band disbanded in 2016. He revealed the reason for leaving Slipknot was an inflammatory condition in the spine known as transverse myelitis.

Although no official statement has been made, a number of sources say he was fired from the band. Jordison also revealed that he did not leave voluntarily.

Not stopping from Scar The Martyr, Jordison also founded the bands Vimic and Sinsaenum which are heavy metal genres. On several occasions, he has also been touring several other bands such as Metallica, Satyricon, Ministry, Korn, and Rob Zombie.

Joey Jordison died at the age of 46.
