JAKARTA - Two young soloists in the country, Alvin Lapian and Grace Kaitlin, marked their first collaboration in the music industry through the release of a new single titled "Memory".
This pop song with a nostalgic theme and an unexpected encounter with the past was written by Resa Husin since 2023, with a relatively short production process, only in five days.
In terms of lyrical narrative, this song raises a melancholic premise about a pair of ex-lovers who accidentally cross paths again. The moment immediately triggers a collective memory of the past through small details that are familiar, such as perfume scents, favorite black shirts, to red-blue bracelets that circle around the wrist.
In order to produce an intimate and personal audio presentation, this collaboration project entrusted the post-production to Roommate Project (Aldi Fachrobby and Raymond Aditya). Not only that, the vocal department was also polished directly by Mohammed Kamga who acted as the vocal director.
For this project, Resa Husin expressed her satisfaction with the compatibility of Alvin and Grace's vocal characters from the beginning of the production process which started in the recording studio.
"Alvin and Grace have strong and unique vocal characters. For this collaboration, the results are very suitable since the recording process. Assisted by Mas Kamga as one of the best vocal directors in Indonesia, the results are really satisfying," said Resa in his statement, Friday, May 22.
As for Alvin, performing this song is a challenge in itself because it requires a subtle emotional approach. He admitted that he had to restrain himself so that the longing he conveyed did not sound excessive.
"The song 'Memori' is not only about the past, but about two people who once had a special place for each other and were finally reunited," said Alvin.
"The biggest challenge is how to convey this personal nostalgia without sounding emotionally explosive. Building chemistry with Grace from the workshop to the recording feels very easy because we complement each other," he continued.
On the other hand, Grace Kaitlin assessed the story content in this song is very relevant to the reality of the interpersonal relationships of today's young people. He also felt comfortable while working with Alvin.
"Working with Alvin is very fun, he is a sweet and kind person, making the entire process of working from workshops to making music videos exciting without any significant obstacles," said Grace.
In line with the launch of the audio, the music video for "Memori" was also released on the official YouTube channel of MyMusic Records. The video clip visualization was worked on by the director duo Gaby and David from the production house YOUKNOWWHOFILM.
The music video depicts the dynamics of Alvin and Grace's college romance, which is separated by distance, until fate brings them back together in a corner of Jakarta.
Through this collaborative work, the two singers hope that "Memori" will be a warm cathartic medium for their listeners.
"Hopefully, the song 'Memory' can be a friend for people who have beautiful memories, whether with exes, friends, or even certain phases of life. We want listeners to understand that sometimes memories are there to be celebrated and embraced, not to be regretted," concluded Alvin.
